World Water Day
Five Food Finds about Water
- Over 70 percent of an adult’s body is made up of water.
- The recommended daily intake of water is 8 cups per day, but it can come through the consumption of food as well.
- There’s more fresh water stored under the ground in aquifers than on the earth’s surface.
- Drinking too much water too quickly causes water intoxication, caused by reduced sodium (salt) levels in the blood stream. Some confuse this with a “runner’s high”.
- Of all the water on the earth, humans can use about three tenths of a percent of it for drinking water.

I had never heard of “water intoxication” before!
Sorry to be pedantic, but I’m fairly sure the French normally call jam/jelly confiture. Marmelade is French for Marmalade – it comes from the Portuguese Marmelada, which comes from the Greek language via Latin.
I can see that.
I drink mine with coffee ;)

I always had in my mind you can’t die from drinking too much water. But you can die from drinking too much water in one sitting. I heard your stomach can burst.
With such a small percentage of water available as drinking water, we should be more aware of how precious water is.
Water is something we often take for granted. It is good to be reminded how important water is for every aspect in our lives, especially cooking!

Also drinking too much water – the kidneys will be worn out – happen to my poor old mum and that will change your life – still we can’t live without it.
Please correct me if I am wrong, but runner’s high is because of the release of endomorphins after a strenuous running session. Drinking too much water (which a lot of runners are guilty of) may result in a condition called hyponatremia, and that is different from runner’s high.
You are absolutely right, Many think they are having a runners high when you have been drinking too much water.
