What makes a dish qualify as a pie is simply having a filling wrapped with dough (usually pastry). The difference between pie and cobbler is that a cobbler only has dough (usually biscuit) on top.

I love pie. You could probably stick anything in a flaky buttery pie crust and I would eat it including nothing at all. Pie crust by itself is delicious.

Last year we lived in Middleofnowhere, Missouri for about 8 months. The single redeeming factor about the place was that the next town over (30 minutes away) had this little hole in the wall pie shop that was pretty amazing. On any given day there at least 25 different types of pie, from strawberry rhubarb to Boston cream. All delicious. If you ever find yourself driving through Missouri on 44 and are passing by Rolla, it’s worth a stop!!
