So excited to find out that the month I was born in is also National Honey month because my name Pamela which means sweet like honey, and I work for a bee keeper. Your right about the antiseptic qualities as well. One day I had gotten stung and i just slabbed some of the honey I was working on and the burning went away. Honey is so amazing that most of the recipes I post on inkspiring19.com is sweetened with honey. My personal favorite is homemade honey ice-cream.
Winnie the Pooh month!! Winnie loves honey!! :)
I found some honey that has a production and expiration date. Unfortunately, it tasted and smelled awful. When I looked at the date on it, I thought it was expired. However, when I took it back to the store, they pointed out that the date I saw was when it was produced and that another date located on the jar was the actual expiration date which is not until next year. So, they brought me another jar of the same brand, yet it still smelled horrible. So, I just opted to get a refund.
Honey does not have the ability to ‘rot’ Bacteria will not grow in it naturally. This is why it is great for cuts and burns. It acts as a natural bandage. As honey ages it will simply dry up. It’s flavor and smell is all about where the bees get the nectar. The best Honeys are unfiltered and directly from a bee keeper.
Do you think that it might be altered I some way then as to the reason for the expiration date? I got it in Peru where honey is called “miel”, and the particular one that I bought was the most expensive brand and was miel de abja. They told me that it was natural, and the taste was due to it being “fuerte” (strong) which it tasted like it was sour. That’s the first time ever out of all the places that I have purchased honey abroad and back in the states that ever had such a taste.
Thanks for keeping us up to date on ‘this day in food history’. And, yes, I read it. Today? Deja vu on the milestones. Sorry! But wanted you to know someone is reading:)
I saw that! Last week I accidentally deleted today’s post…Now it’s all back.
