Autumn is here, and it’s time to brake out the bread and cheese, get out the skillet, and make some grilled cheese sandwiches!

I have to say my favorite is at a Homewood based chain, Zoe’s Kitchen.
Ok, I know the idea of a “chain restaurant” is not what you would think of as a place I would recommend, but give me a minute to explain their concept.
Fresh and local produce are used to make everything they offer.  Chicken salad made fresh daily and there’s lot’s of Southern fare done well. Even local baked breads used on the sandwiches.  Best of all, it’s consistent and affordable.
Just look at the menu.  I could go on and on.  Needless to say, I like the place A LOT.
Their grilled cheese I often order is   provolone on toasted rye bread, add tomato, a side of rice pilaf. Yum!
The tomato was suggested to me by K, and I have been hooked ever since.  The sweetness makes all the difference
Perhaps the perfect grilled cheese!
What are some of your memories about grilled cheese sandwiches?
When I was growing up it was two slices of white bread,  a piece of American cheese, and a pat of butter in the iron skillet until it was crisp on the edges.   Cut on the bias, plate, and enjoy.
I believe my grandmother puts mayonnaise on hers-you know, to make it healthier.
Off to find the right skillet.  You know here at 11 we have at least five of everything.
A bacon grilled cheese for breakfast?  Why not?
