National Almond Day

National Almond Day
February 16
The almond tree is native to the Middle East and is known for corrugated seed shell. Almond is also the name of the edible and cultivated seed of this tree. Although often called a nut, the fruit or seed if not botanically a nut but a drupe.
The U.S.A. produced about 41% of the worlds almonds. They may be enjoyed raw, salted, roasted, smoked, over ice cream, in lotions, soaps, foods and much more. There are numerous recipes that call for almonds, almond milk and almond butter. They are high in vitamin E and are responsible for lowering cholesterol.
I love to snack on these little drupes during the day for a boost in energy.
Are you an almond fan?
