Five Food Finds about Peanut Butter
1. It takes about 540 peanuts to make a 12-ounce jar of peanut butter.
2. By law, any product labeled “peanut butter” in the United States must be at least 90 percent peanuts. Below 90% and it should be labeled “peanut spread”.
3. The average American consumes more than six pounds of peanuts and peanut butter products each year.
4. Over 60% of consumers prefer creamy peanut butter over crunchy.
5. The peanut is not a nut, but a legume related to beans and lentils.
The difference between Jelly and Jam:
Jelly is made strictly from the juice of fruit while jam is made from crushed fruit.
Daily Quote:
“Nothings spoils the taste of peanut butter and jelly quite like the unrequited love”~Charlie Brown (Peanuts)

PB&J makes great cookies, too. And if we really need a break from PB&J, we can always have PB&H(oney) or maybe some PB&BS(rown)(ugar) . . . oops, that didn’t come out quite right, did it?

Hi John! Thanks so much for visiting my blog, Play a Good Knife and Fork! I really appreciate your subscribing, too :). This is such a great blog – and I LOVE the name – and I have you to thank for providing the impetus for me to finally write a peanut butter post, since I’ve been meaning to do this for quite some time to clarify some of the nutrition misconceptions out there about this super healthy food. I also love peanut butter, like so many of us do. Hope you enjoy today’s post:

I never did understand the difference between jam and jelly! Of course, if I canned fruits and vegetables in the summer, I may have learned this fact a long time ago!

I assume that if they look like nuts then they must be. Unless they are roasted, they have a very, bean like consistency. Which I don’t find good. Did you know that after the peanut flower is pollenated the bean part leaves the flower and travels to the ground. Thought that was neat.

So, can I ask a stupid question? If they are a legume, why are they called peanuts? Is that to fool people into eating them? If it is that’s pretty smart! “No, it’s not a vegetable , it’s a peanut. Well, in that case…”

If there was only peanut butter and jam in this world, I’d be happy. Although I only eat raw nut butters as I’ve learned that is the only healthy way to consume them.
I will look forwards to reading more interesting info on your site!

I love that I get an email with your blog early in the morning every day. I give the daily announcements at the Nutrition Site for the Elderly at the Senior Citizen Center. Those folks were bored to death by these announcements so every day I tell them a lame joke and try to give them some tidbits of trivia to discuss over lunch. Your blog and the food trivia you is a wonderful resource for me. They loved National Brownie Day. Thanks! B
