National Oatmeal Cookie Day

John-Bryan Hopkins

National Oatmeal Cookie Day March 18 Some of my fondest cooking memories are when my mom and I would make oatmeal cookies from the recipe on the Quaker Oats box. That recipe calls for applesauce and raisins, leaving you with moist and chewy cookies to die for. I also like nuts in mine. Some even put chocolate chips in the cookies. How do you like yours? All you need is a glass of cold milk and a cozy blanket to cuddle up with on the couch. I may have to make some today. Baking cookies is a great way to connect with your kids and oatmeal cookies are super easy to make. A great combination.

National Baked Scallops Day

John-Bryan Hopkins

National Baked Scallops Day March 12 I love these little bivalves! When cooked properly they are like butter. Scallops can be found all over the world and are a highly prized food source. Also, some of their shells are valued by collectors. Did you know that they are active swimmers? That is why their adductor muscles are so big. I think for lunch I will be having baked scallops with mushroom cream sauce. How do you like your scallops?

National Crown Roast of Pork Day

John-Bryan Hopkins

National Crown Roast of Pork Day Is there anything that will make your mouth water more that the smell of roast pork wafting through the house? Add the smell of stuffing to the mix and you won’t be able to help yourself. I love the look of a crown roast presented in a formal style. If you cooked it, it makes you look like a gourmet chef to your family and friends. The stuffing is my favorite part and the sauce. Now I’m hungry! Don’t forget to have the butcher do the hard stuff for you!

National White Chocolate Cheesecake Day

John-Bryan Hopkins

National White Chocolate Cheesecake Day March6 Who doesn’t like cheesecake? When you add white chocolate to it, that makes it all the better. The velvety texture of the cheesecake and the flavor of the white chocolate makes this treat delectable. I like raspberry sauce on mine. How do you like yours? Whether you eat it plain or add dark chocolate, peppermint, Brandy sauce or what ever you like, you cannot go wrong with this dessert. In celebration, why not have it for breakfast! It’s only a suggestion.

National Cheese Doodle Day

John-Bryan Hopkins

National Cheese Doodle Day March 5 Cheese Doodles are a cheese flavored corn snack made by Wise Food, Inc that are similar to Frito Lays Cheetos. They come in many varieties such as puffed, crunchy, white cheddar, reduced fat and even crocodile shaped. These cheesy snacks are great anytime of the day.  Make sure you have a napkin handy for your fingers!  You don’t want to have cheese tracks on your pants. I think that this is one of the few snacks that you can still get away with licking your fingers, just don’t tell my mother.

National Pound Cake Day

John-Bryan Hopkins

National Pound Cake Day March 4 A staple at most Southern picnics and parties, the traditional pound cake calls for a pound of sugar, flour, eggs and butter. I am a huge fan of pound cake and always will be.  I like to think it is called such because you gain a pound with every slice! Add some whipped cream and strawberries to mine if you please and I will be in heaven. There are many flavors of pound cake such as lemon and chocolate.  How do you like yours?
